Workshops: School, Community, and Business
Peace Learning Connection
This full day of interactive peace building for fourth and/or fifth
graders is based on the highly successful program of the Peace Learning
Center in Indianapolis and Lawrence Township. Just like rules of the
road for driving, Peace Learning Connection gives students positive and
practical processes for dealing with conflicts and differences, thus
helping to create safe and healthy communities.
A team of four educators and one supervisor implement the program, which includes:
- taking ownership of what you do and say
- identifying communication "fouls"
- practicing "foul busters"
- examining the lives of well-known peacemakers
- learning and stepping through the STEP process
- S-stay cool and use a peace breath and foul buster
- T-tell one point of view
- E-explore the other point of view
- P-problem solve
- experiencing peace with the environment on a 20-minute hike in the natural setting
- practicing peace moves
- working cooperatively to accomplish a culminating team-building activity
- students and teachers departing with a certificate of completion and an interactive workbook that enhances skills
